Smoother travels ahead with the CARES flight safety harness and new edition of Travels with Baby: The Ultimate Guide for Planning Travel with Your Baby, Toddler, and Preschooler.

Holy smokes! Only one week until the 2nd edition Travels with Baby guidebook will be released! I tell you, I am so excited that it’s not been easy to sleep. But I figured what better way to pass the time than by kicking off the first giveaway in celebration of the new edition?!

Who could use a CARES flight safety harness???

The good people at Kids Fly Safe are going to give one lucky reader a new CARES flight safety harness—the easy way to keep your child at least 1 year and 22 lbs. and older safe on airplanes without the use of a car seat. Hooray! I have used CARES now with all 3 of my children at different times and on different trips. You can read all about my experiences with CARES in the new 2nd edition Travels with Baby and in my online review of CARES here.

And since I can’t wait to share the new guidebook with you (418 pages of travel planning advice, insights, how-to’s, checklists, and resources!), I’m going to go ahead and give you a sneak preview of the Table of Contents as part of the fun, and send one of the first printed copies to the lucky winner, too!

So, you wanna win a CARES flight safety harness—and a copy of the new 2nd edition Travels with Baby ($97 value)? Here’s what to do:

STEP 1) First, read the rules.

SWEEPSTAKE RULES: Must be a U.S. or Canadian resident 18 years and over; no purchase or special action required to enter this contest. No cash substitution for prize. Entries must be posted here no later than midnight PST, Thursday, February 13, 2014. By entering your name, email address (not public), and comment below, you agree with these terms and conditions.

STEP 2) Then, take a look at the Table of Contents and simply leave a “comment-entry” below this post telling me the name of the chapter you think will help you most in your travel planning (or your friend or relative you’d like to win this for) and if you like, tell me why! Make sure you use the same email in the email box (which is always safe with me) that I will need you to reply from to confirm if you are the winner!

STEP 3) Okay, but you want MORE chances to win, right??? Here’s how to get ‘em—and you can use any or all of these methods for up to FIVE additional comment-entries. Thanks for all the extra support everyone, and good luck!

Changes in sleep routine is such a challange! what a good topic to address in the book.

  2. Heather H says:

There are a few sections that look great. “Best All-Suite Hotels for Young Families” would be wonderful because you NEED a separate room to enjoy your holiday with babies. I also would like to read “Fifteen Things You Might Not Think to Pack”…well, all the packing lists really. I love packing lists. The book looks wonderful!

    • Thanks, Heather! The packing lists (with a couple of exceptions) are new to this edition and I know from my own experience – every list helps! I hope these help ease up the packing and planning for everyone!

Definitely At the Airport and On the Plane. It’s a challenge for us to figure out how to manage a long trip with a 2 year old!!

    • I hear you, Brian! I’ve survived flying with THREE 2-year-olds now, but thankfully not 3 at the same time. I HAVE met those parents though! Always good to keep them in mind when my hands feel plenty full… good luck!

I think the first chapter will help me most (although to am really interested in the chapter on cruises with children)!! I am not quite sure what age is appropriate for travel and what to expect for the different ages so I would be interested in your input!!

    • Thanks, Andrea! I know how you feel. With baby #1 it was always impossible to imagine what life with her would be like once a trip we were planning got underway, and with baby #2 – she was a completely different person with her own ideas! With baby #3, we just rolled with it. ;-) Best of luck to you – I’d love to hear how your travels go and if you have any feedback on the Ages & Stages for me!

  9. Andrea H says:

    I get your emails too!

I am also an email subscriber :)

    I just posted on Facebook.

  12. Claire says:

It all looks so helpful, but traveling further afield looks great as I’m contemplating a trip to Burma.

    • Burma! Wow! I have a friend heading there soon – but for her 60th birthday, and not with small kids! ;-) I would LOVE to hear if you make the trip and how it goes!

Chapter 5 – Preparing for changes would be very helpful especially as it relates to sleeping routines and dealing with time zone chanages!

    • A big issue for sure! Especially when you want to get the most out of your time at a great destination – and not spend it napping to make up for midnight playdates! ;-) Good luck!

Deciding Where To Stay is currently on my list of things to do!

    • Perfect! I know that’s always a tough one – when you have options (not the relative’s house – ha!). I made sure this edition had plenty of suggestions and advice on that because I know it is needed. Good luck!

  17. AmyL says:

Ch 7 The Baby Abroad – we want to take our kids to visit family in HK but I think they’re a bit young. One is 3.5 and the other is 1.5 year old. Ideally I’d like to get the youngest potty trained first.

Thanks for the opportunity to win both prizes!

  18. Justyna says:

I have the first edition of your book and love the unique child section. It helped me a lot when flying with my high energy toddler. Some other books had advice that wouldn’t help me at all with my child but yours was right on target. Thanks!

    • Wow! Thanks so much for letting me know. I think that is *such* an important part in the planning that many people don’t often even realize – especially now with 3 kids of my own who have made me deeply appreciate each of our own temperaments (mine and hubby’s included!). That actually led me to go even farther with the topic of temperament in this edition, and I hope it will help many families. Thanks again – your comment made my day! ;-)

  19. Amy says:

Used your site and book extensively when traveling to Paris with our 8 month old one year ago. Continue to follow your blog. Would love the book and the harness! Thanks for considering me!

  20. Dora says:

Chapter 7 – Baby Abroad and the part with parents traveling with different names because I am worry about this for us! I know it can be difficult sometimes from our family, but we have not done this yet. Thank you!

  22. Christine says:

I am very excited to read Chapters 23, 24 and 25 of your book on cruising with a baby (or babies!) My husband and I just had our first child and we both love to cruise. We are starting to plan our first vacation and I am already tired of people telling me that you shouldn’t cruise with a baby – I would much rather listen to real advice on the do’s and don’t of making it POSSIBLE rather than simply being told to avoid it altogether. THANK YOU in advance!

    • Sweet! I’m so with you on that, Christine! I’m guessing you will have a GREAT family cruise in your future – and I’m pretty darn sure the book will help because I wrote it just for parents like you (like me)! ;-) Good luck!

  23. Christine says:

I am also already an email subscriber. I would add I am also very interested in your section on travel packing for baby and baby supply delivery services in Chapter 4.
