Our vacation apartment at Carabeo 2000 proved to be a great location for our family while staying in Nerja, Spain. On a quiet passage, just a short block from two restaurants with sidewalk dining, even our jetlagged late-night landing was eased by a short stroll in the night air and dining al fresco with the kids who had been cooped up in too many airplanes and airports. From the apartment, we enjoyed access to one lovely beach across the street, and a 5-minute picturesque stroll down the pedestrian-only Carabeo Way to the Balcony of Europe, where we made a daily ritual of ice cream, visiting the town's well-cared for cats, and enjoying that most-photographed of Nerja's beaches: Calahonda Beach.
We had no need of our rental car to get from the apartment to any of a dozen restaurants or cafes in Nerja, including a French bakery around the corner. The Minimarket Aurora at the end of the lane proved to have every grocery I needed to stock our kitchen, including eggs, produce, sauces, milk, diapers and baby food, plus some of the best salame I think I've ever eaten which only cost 1 Euro - yes, I returned for more! Free parking was available both on street and in the parking lot just behind the apartment building.
Our kitchen was fully equipped with full-size refrigerator, oven/stove, microwave oven, toaster, and electric kettle. The half bath included a small high-efficiency washing machine and laundry powder--a terrific convenience for us while staying with three very young children. Laundry lines were ready as needed on the sunny balcony.
An
elevator made coming and going with our stroller (and suitcases) a breeze. The
apartment building also features a rooftop terrace with lounge chairs, a shower,
and small swimming pool with a delightful view, though the pool is emptied
during the winter months, so plan accordingly. I would add a note that the very friendly owners made themselves quite available to us and were a great resource in our planning both before arriving and also during our stay. Knowing we had a very late arrival, they even stocked our kitchen with cookies and milk for the children. Did we enjoy our stay at Carabeo 2000? Definitely yes. Would we recommend the apartment to friends? Yes. Would we stay there again? Absolutely.
