"The Modage," a beautifully renovated craftsman townhouse located in Vancouver's celebrated Kitsilano neighborhood, is a perfect option for out-of-towners who want to live like locals -- in a neighborhood where most any locals would like to live. With 2+ bedrooms sleeping up to 6 people, 2.5 baths, and 1300 square feet of living space, we had no trouble at all making our family of 5 feel at home. Better still, the fresh colors, original artwork, fun photography, and whimsical handcrafted sculpture throughout the vacation rental (including a kitchen chandelier made from tea kettles), were perfect complements to our "Kits" experience. We pulled in to the easy, on-site parking and pretty much kissed the rental car and car seats goodbye, enjoying walks from The Modage to nearby markets (including supermarket, natural foods, and wine shop), cafes, restaurants, parks, and Kitsilano Beach. Strolling around the bend from "Kits Beach" and its expansive playground, we arrived at the Maritime Museum, where we were able to board the False Creek ferry with our stroller and make way for Granville Island. When we did finally jump into the car, it was only a 10-minute drive to Stanley Park and the Vancouver Aquarium. At day's beginning and end, we felt every bit as much at home as at home (if not more so), with a great full kitchen, breakfast bar, round table easily seating 5, gas fireplace, 2 full bathrooms plus a powder room, washer / dryer, wireless and hard-wired internet access--not to mention an office on the ground level with a sofabed that can sleep 1 or 2 more people if needed, as either a double or twin beds. A deep soaking tub made bath time all the better for the kids, while mom and dad certainly appreciated having their own bathroom in the master suite as well. As you'll see in the video, the master bedroom is light and airy with a vaulted ceiling and skylight. And though I hadn't packed enough to do it justice, the walk-in closet was helpful in keeping us organized and was the perfect place to keep the suitcases out of our way.
While the townhouse was more than comfortable for our crew, the highlight for the kids was actually outside just beyond the picket fence. Sure, Vancouver has its aquarium, fabulous beaches, fun ferries, and a dozen other delights, but according to the girls the tire swing is a top-rated attraction in its own right.
I think the location of The Modage is really hard to beat for any family visiting Vancouver, especially one that wants to simplify and sightsee mostly by foot and stroller, and enjoy a good amount of time at the beach--all while feeling like they're part of one of the best neighborhoods in town. Did we enjoy our stay at The Modage? Yes. Would I recommend it to a friend? Yes. Would we stay there again? Absolutely.
